Myfonts Inc. is an e-commerce website for desktop and webfont products to download and purchase. It started as digital font’s distributor located in Woburn, Massachusetts, created by Bitstream Inc. The concept was launched in September 1999 when Charles Ying wanted to find a font for a particular project and realized that a font cannot be found by just writing wedding fonts or Christmas font. He realized, the only way to find a font on the web was to know the font name or browse a whole alphabetical list, and that was making it too time-consuming and hectic. The founder of my fonts came up with a new model of font distribution which was based on the long tail phenomena that every font that meets technical and legal criteria should be distributed, and designers set their license term and prices while every time a sale happens my fonts gets 50 percent of cut sales. In 2012, monotype imaging acquired myfonts.com and some other font related parts of Bitstream for $50 million.
